Professional development

We believe interpreting our natural, social and cultural heritage enriches people’s understanding and appreciation of the world and their role within it. Therefore, nurturing the practice of interpretation is critical to the way people experience these significant places and cultural values.

IA runs a range of professional development events aimed at sharing ideas, nurturing
best-practice and supporting the work you do as an interpretation professional. We run
a blend of online and in-person events to provide access to  many members as possible. from across Australia.

Webinars

These online presentations
feature one or more speakers exploring a single topic, followed by an interactive discussion with members.

Community cuppa

Usually held over lunch, these informal online forums are designed for members to share challenges and shape solutions together.

Essentials course

Scheduled to launch in 2027, this online, self-paced course provides an introduction to interpretation b 

National conference

IA runs a biennial conference exploring industry trends, challenges and opportunities. The 2028 conference will be held in Melbourne.

Workshops

Online, face-to-face or a hybrid, these hands-on sessions focus on specific skills and interpretive practices.

Site visits

These guided site visits provide insights into projects and are valuable networking opportunities.
