Interpretation Essentials
online course
IA is committed to supporting interpretation and interpreters across Australia. With limited opportunities to study interpretation formally within Australia, outside of larger courses such as museum studies or ecotourism , IA is developing a new short course.
The course will cover the fundamentals of interpretation within an Australian context, be offered online at an accessible fee.
The course aims to engage:

-
New interpreters or people considering a career interpretation.
-
Students studying course such as tourism, museum studies.
-
People working in tourism and wildlife tourism.
-
Manages of interpretive functions within an organisation.
-
People who work alongside interpreters, interpretive designers and consultants.
-
Teams working with signs, public art, public spaces, place making and public programs.
-
Landscape architects and architects who tell stories through design.
-
Experienced interpreters who want to refresh skills and knowledge.
-
Those looking for resources to advocate on behalf of interpretation.
IA will be engaging a panel of industry experts, drawn from the IA membership, to ensure the course content reflects industry practice and industry needs. EOIs for the panel will be sought in late 2027 via IA eNews, with the course planned for launch in mid-2027.
